[ARCHIVED] Community tulip planting to be held on Saturday, October 29

Did you know that every fall about this time, the City’s parks crew plants approximately 75,000 tulip bulbs in preparation for Tulip Time in the spring? This year, the City of Pella is enlisting the help of volunteers to plant tulips in the beds along Washington Street specifically on Saturday, October 29 beginning at 9:00am. Individuals and teams will be working all day, and the City appreciates the help as long as volunteers are able to stay. An overview of the day will be provided at 9:00am in City Hall along with pastries and coffee. Parking is available behind City Hall via the alley between Broadway and W 1st. Those unable to be present at 9:00 should feel free to join the crews at any time throughout the day along Washington Street.

Bring a friend…or two…or three! The work will be tough, but having someone to work with will make it an enjoyable experience. Please consider asking neighbors, small group, team and/or family members to join in the fun. Volunteers should bring work gloves and a straight shovel if they have one. The City hopes for a great turnout on October 29!
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with tulips but is unable to help on Saturday should contact Parks Manager Chandler Nunnikhoven at 628.4299 or to set up another time to help.
The City would like to thank the Central College women’s basketball team for their help in preparing the beds along Washington Street for Saturday. Last week, the team removed all of the annual flowers from those beds in just over an hour. Many hands make light work!
