[ARCHIVED] 2018 Sewer Cleaning and Inspection Program to Begin Soon

The City’s ten-year Sewer Cleaning and Inspection Program is scheduled to begin early to mid July. This project is a proactive approach that will identify and prioritize future repairs and maintenance in the sanitary sewer collection system.  This project includes cleaning and televising the City’s sewer mains and inspecting manholes.  The area to be cleaned and inspected in 2018 includes residential areas.

Any residents that may be affected by this process will receive notification prior to any work being done in their neighborhood.  Residents who may notice sewer odors in their homes following this work should make sure that all drain traps in their home are full by pouring water in them.  Residents should also keep all toilet lids closed when not in use as the cleaning process can sometimes pressurize private services and force water back up and out drains and toilets.  Because the cleaning process requires a substantial amount of water we will be utilizing selected fire hydrants in the project area.  Residents should first check water clarity prior to washing dishes or doing laundry.

Please contact Pella Public Works at 641.628.1601 with any questions.

Please see the flyer linked below for a map of the affected areas.
