In March 2012 the Pella City Council approved a partnership agreement between the City of Pella and Fields for Our Future, Inc. (FOF) for the purpose of creating a sports park in Pella. In August 2013 the City of Pella bid construction services for Phase I of the Pella Sports Park. Phase I work consists of installation of 5 baseball fields, field lighting, multi-purpose fields, approximately 175 parking spaces, a paved entrance drive, a utility building, a concessions building, a restroom facility, site utilities, irrigation, landscaping, and wetland mitigation. In August 2013 the contract was awarded to Todd Hackett Construction of Muscatine, Iowa. Construction work started in early September 2013 and is expected to be substantially completed by August 2014. To date all of the utilities have been installed, the grading work is 85% completed, the sub-base for the entrance road has been installed and the pond is nearly completed. Work will slow down for the winter months but will resume as soon as weather permits in Spring 2014.
