[ARCHIVED] Well Maintenance Activity

The majority of the City of Pella’s water is drawn from 4 shallow wells and the Ranney Collector well located near the Des Moines River. A portion of the water is also obtained from the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer (Jordan Well). These two sources are blended together to supply water for the City during peak water use periods.

Currently the Water Department is in the process of completing maintenance on the Ranney Collector wells. During this project we will be supplementing the water supply with a percentage blend from the Jordan Well. During this project, we have the possibility of running a 45% - 65% blend with Jordan Well water. The higher blend will not affect the safety of the water supply however some changes in taste may take place.

The Water Plant will commence using the Jordan Well source today. However, it may be an additional day or two before any changes can be noticed out in the system. It is expected that we will return to our normal water source in two weeks. If you have any questions or would like more information please contact the City of Pella Public Works Department at 628-1601.
