TESTING OF THE CITY OF PELLA OUTDOOR WARNING SYSTEM IS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. NO OUTDOOR WARNING TEST WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21, 2012.
The City of Pella has upgraded its outdoor warning system. To be in compliance with FCC regulations regarding narrow banding by the year 2013, all Pella outdoor warning system components have been upgraded and re-programmed. The final step of the upgrade was completed on Thursday, March 15, 2012 when audible testing of all sites was conducted during the day. During the testing it was found that the Bos Landen site does not function properly. Therefore, citizens that rely on the Bos Landen site for notification of severe weather should focus on the City of Pella Water Treatment Plant site or the site located at West 16th and Fifield Road. Diligent repairs are being made to the Bos Landen site and the entire system will undergo audible testing at a later date.
In coordination with the National Weather Service Severe Weather Awareness week, Pella Police Department will participate in the statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Residents of Pella are encouraged to take this opportunity to familiarize themselves with the outdoor warning system tones, focusing on the site best suitable to monitor in the event of an actual warning.
