Medical & Prescription Insurance

Full-time employees and their eligible dependents are provided medical and prescription drug insurance through the Iowa Community Trust (ICT). It consists of a fully insured component through Wellmark and a partially self-funded component administered by SISCO. The City of Pella and the employee share in the cost of the plan.

Dental Insurance

Full-time employees are offered dental insurance for themselves and their eligible dependents through Delta Dental. The employee is responsible for paying the premium.

Flexible Spending Accounts

The City of Pella offers eligible employees IRS Code Section 125 Flexible Spending accounts for medical, dental, and dependent care expenses and for pre-tax payment of health and dental insurance premiums.

Life Insurance

The City of Pella provides full-time employees with a term life insurance policy.

Long-Term Disability

The City of Pella provides eligible employees a long-term disability policy, which provides 60% of salary after an initial elimination period of 90 calendar days.

Vacation, Sick Leave & Holidays

Pursuant to the Personnel Policy Manual, the City of Pella provides each permanent full-time employee with vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay.

Retirement

Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) City employees, except for sworn police officers, are covered under IPERS. As established by Iowa Code Chapter 97B, effective July 1, the City contributes 9.44% of covered wages, and the employee contribution is 6.29% of covered wages.

Municipal Fire / Police Retirement System of Iowa (MFPRSI) Sworn police officers are eligible for MFPRSI. The contribution rate structure is established by Iowa Code 411. Effective July 1, the City contributes 24.41% of earnable compensation, and the employee contribution is 9.4% of earnable compensation.

ICMA Deferred Compensation Plans

It is the policy of the City of Pella to provide plans where employees can defer a portion of their compensation for the purpose of building retirement security in accordance with Iowa Code 509A and Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in plans administered by ICMA Retirement Corporation.
