What do I need to become a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Iowa?

Facility & Grounds Maintenance Technician - Parks Department

Starting Wage: $13.11 per hour. Full-time Parks position. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining City owned facilities, grounds, equipment and vehicles. Duties might include: opening and closing facilities; performing snow removal duties; providing lawn care; performing safety inspections; performing preventative maintenance and light repairs on vehicles, facilities, and related equipment; repairing and maintaining park and athletic structures and playground equipment; performing landscaping activities; and, performing pesticide applications. Incumbents are required to serve as a lead to part-time and seasonal workers.

Position reports to Community Services Director. Post-offer employment physical and hearing test required.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. (Associates Degree in Horticulture, Mechanics, or related field preferred) and one year of related facilities, equipment, landscaping or athletic facilities maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Class B, Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.

Community Services Program Specialist Sr. - Aquatic Center - Part-time

Pay scale $9.00 - $9.50 per hour. Part-time position responsible for providing recreational services/programs and ensuring the safety of patrons and for serving as a lead to other staff. Hours vary and could include daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Duties might include: overseeing and monitoring other staff; teaching classes; preparing daily financial reports; balancing cash drawers, depositing money, and making receipt entries; answering telephones, greeting customers, and providing information; resolving customer complaints; maintaining facility operations; filling in for other staff members in their absence; assisting to ensure policies are followed and tasks are carried out; and, assisting in recreational, athletic and/or educational program implementation.

Position reports to Aquatic Manager. High School diploma or G.E.D. required. Specialized training in area of assignment, one year of related experience required and American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certifications required. Maintenance Worker - Parks Department

Part-time/1200 hours

DBM A-1-1. Pay scale $12.13 per hour. Part-time, 9-month appointment, approximately 1200 hours annually. March through November position may work up to 40 hrs per week. Position responsible for flower bed, landscaping, parks and recreational facilities maintenance, mowing, and cleaning facilities. Essential functions will require an ability to communicate effectively, ability to operate variety of motorized equipment, ability to perform necessary repairs, physical labor using hand tools, lifting up to 50 pounds repeatedly, stooping, bending, climbing, etc.

Position reports to Community Services Director. Applicant will be required to have post-offer pre-work assessment.

Flag Football Officials: Seasonal part-time positions responsible for officiating flag football games beginning August, 2008. $8.00 per hour.

Soccer Officials: Seasonal part-time positions responsible for officiating soccer games during the months of August, September & October. $8.00 per hour.

Basketball Aides: Seasonal part-time positions responsible for assisting with instruction of basketball fundamentals during the months of November, December, January and February. $8.00 per hour.
