Part-time Police Communications Specialist

Hourly rate: $14.79. Part-time position at Police Department, varying shifts. Incumbents are responsible for dispatching police, ambulance, and fire personnel and performing administrative support activities. Duties include: answering emergency and non-emergency calls; providing radio communications with Police Officers and other law enforcement personnel; answering requests for information from personnel in the field; dispatching emergency personnel; performing administrative support such as maintaining records and files; logging information coming into the communications office; maintaining and updating files; registering bicycles; sending and receiving messages on the state and national computer for public safety personnel; responding to walk-in customers; monitoring prisoners in the holding facility; and, entering citations, parking tickets, arrest information, and accident reports into databases. Position requirements: Iowa/NCIC Certification within six (6) weeks after date of hire; Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification within six (6) weeks after date of hire; Jail Administrator Certification within one (1) year after date of hire; Residency within a 20 minute drive time of the Police Department. Residency to be established within sixty (60) days in accordance with the personnel manual.

Part-time Library Shelver

Hourly rate: $7.25 per hour. Incumbents are responsible for shelving books and performing routine circulation duties. Duties include: shelving library materials; keeping shelves neat and orderly; checking in and out library materials; performing shelf-reading; and, answering routine patron questions. Position would work an average of 6 hours a week including Saturdays and Sundays. This is a year round position.

Building Maintenance Tech

Hourly Rate: $15.90 (effective 7/1/09). Incumbents are responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled activities in maintaining City of Pella owned facilities and grounds. Duties might include: opening and closing facilities; removing trash; checking building temperatures; clearing sidewalks; providing lawn care; performing safety inspections; performing preventative maintenance and light repairs to facilities, related equipment, and systems; performing preventative maintenance and basic repairs on trucks and equipment; trouble-shooting mechanical and electrical systems; maintenance and repair of plumbing systems; and, ordering and maintaining building maintenance supplies and inventories.

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and one year of related facilities maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above. Class B, Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months after date of hire. Pre-employment drug screening and post-offer physical required.
