  2. Sensory Processing Basics

    June 5, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Come learn about sensory preferences in children and how they can affect a child’s behavior, interactions and learning. Presented by Elise Spronk, OTR/L, of Kinetic Edge Physical Therapy. Sign up required; call the library to RSVP. Class Description: Some of us like hot salsa, some of us prefer mild. One child touches everything (and everyone) within reach, and another might avoid touching anything (including things we think they should like). Some kids love amusement parks and all the rides, while others prefer to linger on the ground and prefer quieter activities. These are just a few examples of sensory preferences. How a person’s brain processes sensory information can greatly impact interactions with the environment and others, the ability to learn, and the ability to behave appropriately. Participants will learn basic strategies to determine how using our senses can promote improved behavior, paying attention, and handling stress, particularly in the lives of children.
